National Conference on Linguistics (NCL) was initiated by the Linguistic Society of Taiwan (LST). The first NCL was held in Year 2000. The primary purpose of NCL is to provide an opportunity for young linguists to present their ideas and to discuss with their peers and professors so that those young linguists can receive assistance to become independent and mature researchers.

NCL 2008 will be hosted by Department of Foreign Languages, National Chiayi University, May 2^nd – 3^rd 2008 on Minhsiung Campus. All linguists are invited to come to Chiayi for NCL 2008!

ì Important Dates

Abstract due: February 15th, 2008

Notification of results: March 13th, 2008. Please respond, before March 16^th, whether you intend to participate and present your paper.

Full paper due: April 12^th, 2008. Please note that failure to submit a full paper will disqualify you as a presenter at NCL 2008.

Full paper format: Double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt font, with 2.54 cm (1 inch) margin on all sides. For other format, please refer to Language and Linguistics.

ì Transportation

1. If you fly to Kaohsiung International Airport:

Take a bus to Kaohsiung Train Station. Then, take a train from Kaohsiung Train Station to Chiayi Train Station. The trip is about two to three hours. Then, you can take a taxi to Minhsiung Campus or to your hotel.

2. If you fly to Taoyuan International Airport:

(a) By bus: Take Kuokuang Bus to Taipei and then take a bus, from Taipei, to Chiayi. The trip from the airport to Taipei is around 1 hour and the trip from Taipei to Chiayi is around 3.5 hours.

(b) By train: Take Kuokuang Bus to Taipei and then take a train, from Taipei, to Chiayi. The trip from the airport to Taipei is around 1 hour and the trip from Taipei to Chiayi is around 4 hours.

(c) By High Speed Railway (HSR): Take a bus to Taoyuan Station, HSR. Then take HSR to Chiayi. The HSR trip is around 1.5 hours. From Chiayi Station, HSR, take Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to Chiayi Train Station.

· From Chiayi Train Station, you can take a taxi to Minhsiung Campus or your hotel.
